Frequently Asked Questions
At what age can rhinoplasty be considered?
Rhinoplasty is generally recommended from the age of 18, once facial growth is complete. Performing surgery at this stage allows for more stable results and predictable healing. Exceptions may be considered in specific medical cases, which can be evaluated during a consultation with Dr. Vansteelant.
What is the ideal age for otoplasty?
The ideal age for otoplasty is typically between 6 and 8 years, when the ear cartilage has grown enough to be reshaped with reliable results. By age 6, the cartilage has reached adequate consistency, and by 7 to 8 years, the ears are nearly fully developed.
In certain special cases, surgery may be considered as early as 5 years old; however, it is generally preferable to wait until the cartilage is well formed.
In adolescents and adults, otoplasty remains equally effective, providing lasting aesthetic improvement. A personalized consultation with Dr. Vansteelant helps determine the most appropriate timing based on each individual case.
What type of anesthesia is used for rhinoplasty?
Rhinoplasty is most often performed under general anesthesia, which ensures optimal comfort during the procedure and safe management.
In selected cases, such as minor or touch-up rhinoplasty, local anesthesia with sedation may be considered. The choice of anesthesia depends on the nature of the surgery, its expected duration, and the patient’s preferences. Dr. Vansteelant will discuss the options with you during your consultation, in collaboration with the anesthesiologist.
What type of anesthesia is used for otoplasty?
The type of anesthesia varies depending on the patient’s age:
- In children, otoplasty is usually performed under general anesthesia to ensure safety and comfort throughout the procedure.
- In adolescents and adults, the procedure can be performed under local anesthesia with or without sedation, depending on the patient’s preferences and the surgeon’s assessment.
Dr. Vansteelant will carefully evaluate each case and recommend the most appropriate option in collaboration with the anesthesiologist.
What are the costs of surgical and non-surgical aesthetic treatments?
The prices of procedures such as rhinoplasty, otoplasty, and cosmetic injections (Botox, fillers) vary depending on the nature of the treatment, its complexity, and the products used. The exact cost will be provided during a personalized consultation with Dr. Vansteelant, following a comprehensive assessment of your needs and expectations.
What happens during the first consultation and what should I expect?
During your initial consultation, Dr. Vansteelant will take the time to understand your expectations and concerns. She will conduct a thorough clinical examination, review your medical history, and assess your individual situation.
You will receive detailed explanations of the available treatment options, the expected benefits, potential risks, and the steps involved in the procedure or treatment.
This appointment is also an opportunity for you to ask any questions you may have. The goal is to collaborate closely to develop a personalized plan that best meets your needs and goals.
